Reflecting on Individual Progress

  Reflect on what you have learned through this training experience about designing games for learning. What was most insightful? Understanding that all games can be tweaked to become educational games is a game changer for the education field.  What do you still want to know about? A class using Construct only to really develop a game would be beneficial. That way I can take the assignment to the end, and be able to apply to my own classroom setting.   What did you like about learning the ins and outs of design? What did you dislike? I love the idea of learning through a game, especially since I am already a teacher. I know the struggle of sometimes making a topic fun to learn. Just like most, I am a creature of habit so learning several different platforms to create different learning games was a bit overwhelming at times. Balancing Achievements

  Balancing Achievements Step 1: Play Oregon Trail Step 2: Chose to play a farmer in Illinois, stocked up on food, oxen, and 1 spare parts for the wagon. Because I stocked up on everything else, I had less money to spend on clothes and bullets but still bought 3 cases.  Select your Role...Banker, Carpenter, Farmer. At the start of the game, players are given their very first decision — who to role-play as determines the level of challenge the player experiences. I chose farmer not knowing it was the hardest. Farmer = hardest and is scored early on in the game by how much money is available when the player starts. Learning occurs through this mechanic to illustrate the Banker would most likely have been the profession to travel the Oregon Trail as money is what sustained supplies and passage over other skills and therefore the journey was much harder for professions that were not rich. Reflect on Digital Design Process

Reflect on your process for designing the mechanics for your game. Using resources available for tutorials were a huge help along with Professor Oprean. Going along with resources, there were so many that it was hard to find what would be helpful and what was not applicable to my game. I spent a lot of time looking through resources that I didn’t even end up using.  If I had to do this process over again, I wish I knew for 100% sure what my game setup was going to be for the interaction. Knowing that would have saved me a lot of time, instead of jumping around looking at different ideas.  What did you learn from the Construct 3 implementation aspect of the project? The only previous game design that I have had thus far was in this same class. This game has a lot of differences from a physical board game for obvious reasons, but a lot that leads up to creating the games are similar. Reflect on Analog Design Process

 Reflection Reflect on your process for designing the mechanics for your mentor games. It was extremely helpful to look at other existing games and their instructions to be able to tell what was written well and what wasn't.  The peer feedback was a big help in furthering my development and to point out things I might have overlooked.
